Saint Maries woman dies in crash

A 55-year-old St. Maries woman died early Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 3, according to the Idaho State Police.

The crash occurred around 4:40 a.m., police said, near milepost 88, near St. Maries. 

A news release said the female driver, who has not been publicly named, was traveling northbound in a Chevrolet Captiva that went off the roadway and came to rest against a tree. 

The driver sustained critical injuries and was transported via ambulance to a hospital, where she died, according to ISP. She was the vehicle’s sole occupant. 

The roadway was blocked for about three hours after the crash. 

An investigation continues.
