POLICE: Coeur d'Alene foot patrol luxury

| August 24, 2025 1:00 AM

For an understaffed police department long foot patrols are a poor use of resources.

Almost every evening one or two patrol cars are parked in the Independence Point parking lot. The officers walk to the Fort Ground and/or downtown.

The further they are from their patrol vehicle renders them out of service for a quick response to emergencies, calls for service, or enforcement of loud or reckless vehicles.

At this time officers should be concentrating on current issues plaguing the city.

When everything is running smoothly and calls or complaints are at a minimum, foot patrols are a nice addition to any department.

I sincerely hope that the Coeur d’Alene Chief of Police will take this into consideration.
