NOISE: Need to teach offenders a lesson

We want to second Ed Hatter’s letter regarding noise in downtown Coeur d’Alene. Last Friday evening, we decided to dine at a Sherman Avenue restaurant with its inviting outdoor patio but the noise from “souped up” vehicles was ear-piercing! It has to be hurting downtown businesses! Why would the city allow this nuisance to taint the charm and natural beauty of the downtown area and chase customers away?  

We know that some new city noise measures have been made with electronic warning signs and higher fines, but it requires ENFORCEMENT! But, where are the police — especially weekend nights on Sherman Avenue, Front Street and Eighth Street. The City Hall parking lot, next to McEuen Park, is a popular destination for these show-offs and a ripe location for catching them. 

Also, people who have residences in the neighborhoods that surround the downtown area are owed the right to peace and quiet — they pay taxes here for police services and deserve help in putting a stop to this continuing problem. 

The police dept. has always been responsive when called for the occasional mishap in our neighborhood, but PLEASE post an officer or patrol the locations mentioned above to teach these marauding noise offenders a WELL-NEEDED LESSON!
