Bill Brooks to run for Coeur d’Alene City Council
Former Kootenai County Commissioner Bill Brooks on Wednesday announced his candidacy for Seat 6 on the Coeur d’Alene City Council.
Brooks, a longtime Coeur d’Alene resident, brings decades of public service, business leadership and consumer protection work to the race, according to a press release.
He served two terms as District 1 Kootenai County commissioner, where he championed government transparency, veterans’ services, responsible budgeting and fair public access to decision-making, the release said.
“My time as county commissioner taught me that local government works best when it listens to people, not special interests. I want to bring that same open-door approach to the Coeur d’Alene City Council,” Brooks said. “This is about protecting the character of our city while planning responsibly for the future.”
As a U.S. Army Security Agency veteran, Brooks served six years in the Army as an interrogator /translator. He was a real estate broker and insurance adjuster. He was also a columnist known as the “Consumer Guy” for The Press.
His campaign will focus on:
• Transparency and Accountability: Ensuring City Hall decisions are open and accessible.
• Growth: Balancing development with quality of life for Coeur d’Alene neighborhoods.
• Public Safety and Services: Supporting police, fire and essential infrastructure.
• Community Values: Preserving the welcoming, small-town character that defines Coeur d’Alene.
“Coeur d’Alene is my home," he said. "I’ve raised my family here, built a business here and served our county here. I want to continue giving back by helping guide our city through the challenges and opportunities."
Seat 6 on the Coeur d'Alene City Council is held by Kiki Miller, who has served on the council for more than 10 years and recently announced she is seeking reelection.
