NOISE: Downtown Cd’A is too loud

I had previously written about this problem in a letter titled “Coeur No More.” Having recently gone downtown for a pleasurable walk and gawk, we ended with dinner at a sidewalk table. Car after car — whole strings of them as in car clubs — drove loudly by as did individual and often strings of motorcycles, all showing off their strident exhaust noise. No citations were being written that we could see, citations which might help the city’s insufficient coffers as recently reported while, at the same time, helping to return Coeur d’Alene to a more pleasurable state.

In the meantime, any notions of going for a pleasurable walk and shop downtown is not on our list of things to do. It’s probably too late to make the central portion of downtown pedestrian only as I had suggested years ago under the auspices of Coeur d’Alene Development Association but it would certainly make for a much more pleasant rather than simply annoying downtown experience and help businesses in the process.
