Free Community Celebration set for Aug. 23 at Post Falls Legion

POST FALLS — Post Falls American Legion Post 143 will host its first Community Celebration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

"We've had discussions for a while on how we can engage the community and have our focus be veterans and community," Post 143 Commander Tim Shaw said Monday.

He said it's easy to focus strictly on veteran issues, and while veteran issues are important, the Legion needs to bring in more people in a younger demographic.

"We are at a point where we have to engage younger veterans or folks are going to go away," Shaw said. "The way we’re going to engage them is give them a reason to bring their families here."

The Post Falls American Legion's inaugural Community Celebration will welcome all ages to enjoy a number of activities, including a car show, crafts, barbecue, music, beer garden and games for kids.

The Post Falls American Legion is at 1138 E. Poleline Ave.
