BOATERS: Follow the law, be considerate

There is confusion among 911 responders and some law enforcement folks regarding the use of the lake, among boaters, jet skiers and other motor driven vehicles as to whether these vehicles can access the beach, inside the swim area.

Swimmers like me have been put at risk of life and limb, as well as have kids in the water. When law enforcement is contacted, folks are told that this is NOT a designated swim area, only a no-wake area. The courts have issued a decision that clearly states Sanders IS a swim area and motorized vehicles are NOT allowed in this area. (2008).

There are five buoys (one is missing and being replaced, damaged by people, costing $250) that clearly delineate the swim area. Boaters are basically flipping off any attempts to “educate” them to move further out. They even drop anchor inside this area.

It is my belief that ALL folks who contact law enforcement should be treated with respect and not be threatened with fines for reporting this dangerous behavior. This is a ticket able offense and criminal penalty if a person is injured or killed. Please be considerate of others and follow the law.
