CDA: Racism is here

I recently witnessed the dark side of Coeur d’Alene in action. It was a disgusting act of racism. While driving north of Government Way, I was watching a bicyclist going south in the bike lane, so I would not make a left turn in front of him. A big white truck went by him going south and kicked in a large emission of black exhaust which landed directly onto the cyclist’s path who then was waving his arms to keep from breathing the toxic exhaust. Why would this driver do this, could it be because the cyclist had dark skin and worn a turban? Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do to help the cyclist or chase after the big white truck driver.

I am writing this letter to the editor to alert Coeur d’Alene residents that racism is here and probably could be witnessed in some form every day. These North Idaho racisms are cowards and bullies and commit unchristian acts of meanness and intolerance. Our community should prioritize kindness, love, assistance and tolerance — not indifference or racism.    

These bullies should not be the heroes in political parties or circles of hate. Let’s find ways to clean up Coeur d’Alene by not encouraging or supporting such acts of racism and hate. Diversity should be recognized and valued as an important asset within our community.
