| August 7, 2025 1:00 AM

The city of Rathdrum is inviting residents to meet candidates for chief of police.

An open house is scheduled 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Rathdrum Community Center, 8037 W. Montana St. All four finalist candidates will be available to speak with residents.

Candidates with local ties include Daniel Haley, a detective with the Coeur d'Alene Police Department and former captain at the Colorado State Patrol, and Edward Jacobson, a law enforcement instructor and retired FBI agent out of the agency's Coeur d'Alene office.

Also up for the position is Jason Brei, police chief at Utah State University, and Alexander Hawley, police chief in Brier, Wash.

The interview panel will be on site to observe how each candidate interacts with the public before making a final decision.

Police Chief Tomi McLean retired in June after over 33 years in law enforcement. McLean had been chief since 2016 and was the first female to fill the role in Rathdrum's history.

The police chief oversees the Patrol Division, which consists of 16 members when fully staffed. Salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $135,000, according to the job posting on SimplyHired.
