FAST FIVE It's more than just junk to Jason Wheelock

Meet Jason Wheelock, owner of Huckleberry Junk Removal in North Idaho.

Jason is local to North Idaho. He enjoys the many friendships and connections he has made in the community. Jason loves being in a service-based industry that keeps him active with manual labor while also giving him opportunities to build relationships and utilize his interpersonal skills. He also loves North Idaho; he chose the name "Huckleberry" because he really wanted his business to have that local, home-grown feeling. Call 208-640-4569 to reach Jason. Find Huckleberry Junk Removal on Facebook or @huckleberry.junk.removal on Instagram.

1) When did you launch your Huckleberry Junk Removal business?
I started Huckleberry Junk Removal in September 2023.

2) What are some of the weirdest, rarest or most interesting items you have come across in your work?
I don't know how to answer this because the things I come across are truly so random. No one thing stands out. I will tell you, however, that going through someone's stuff feels a little like reading their diary. I feel like I really get to know someone when I sift through their belongings.

3) What are you enjoying about meeting people and giving them a hand when they need stuff removed?
What I love most about it is that most of my clients are going through some type of a life transition. My clients often are moving, maybe newly married, newly divorced, experienced a death in the family or maybe just wanting to give themselves a fresh start. Cleaning up your home, letting go of the past and making space for something new is a wonderful feeling. I love seeing my clients turning a new page and I really enjoy the energy of "new beginnings" that I get to see and feel from them.

4) What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I think people may be surprised to know I recently spent six months backpacking across India. I really enjoy yoga, meditation, lifting weights, swimming in the lake and riding my motorcycle.

5) What advice do you have for people to steer clear of clutter or to help prevent hoarding situations?
I have no advice for preventing this. Everyone gathers "clutter and junk," whether it be physical belongings or things that we let build up inside of ourselves. The only advice I have is that when you notice "junk" start to gather up in your home or in your heart, learn to let things go and set yourself free. You will feel a lot lighter and find more space for something new.
