MOTORCYCLISTS: Speeding and acting dangerous

| April 30, 2025 1:00 AM

My wife and I have been walking our dogs on E. Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive for quite a while. Over the last few weeks we have observed the absolute fiasco of motorcycle antics that occur every evening on this road. It is frightening.

There are motorcyclists who are street racing at over 70 mph. There are people popping wheelies and passing at high speed. There are lots of noise violations and near collisions. And nowhere are police to be found.

I am a retired emergency physician and during my career was prehospital medical director for both Humboldt County, Calif., and Bernalillo County, N.M. I know a bit about liability. This situation is creating extreme liability for the city. Somebody will crash their motorcycle and slide onto the path killing a child. Children are walking just feet away from street racing.

The city needs to lower the speed limit on this road to 35 mph from 45. It needs to enforce the law and protect its citizens. There is no excuse for this complete abdication of enforcement by the authorities.
