ENDORSEMENT: Vote for Lippert

I’m writing to endorse Michelle Lippert, and to ask anyone who loves our libraries to vote for Michelle Lippert for the Community Library Network’s Board of Trustees in the May 20 elections.

Michelle not only has the requisite experience and expertise, but she cares deeply about having a more fiscally responsible library that truly serves everyone in our communities regardless of race, gender, ability, income, sexuality, politics or religion. She wants our libraries to have policies, programs and a collection that reflect the open — rather than closed — possibilities and curiosity of our region. Michelle cares about transparency and responsiveness to our communities’ practical needs, rather than the desires and obfuscations of a controlling few.

This is unlike previous KCRCC endorsed candidates like Tom Hanley or Tim Plass, who care far more about “winning” and power over others, than about libraries and good governance. Or their current candidate, a recent California transplant with a lack of relevant knowledge or experience, who, according to her survey response, cares more about how well she lines up with national politicians than she does about the practical needs of our local communities.

Michelle Lippert has the broad support of library workers in their personal capacities, whereas I don’t know of a single front line library worker who has expressed any level of support for her opponent in this election.
