Sandi J. (Von Hosteen) Nagel, 89
Born in Sandpoint, Idaho, and wrapping up her grand adventure in Hayden, Idaho, Sandi Nagel left this world at 89 years young, having lived a life full of laughter, love and a healthy splash of fun. Sandi was raised in Rathdrum, Idaho, and attended her 12 years of school there.
Even in the face of a brief and unwelcome sparring match with cancer, her spirit remained as bright and unwavering as ever.
She was preceded in death by her only grandchild, Brock Winters Cramer, whom she adored beyond measure; her parents, Carl W. & Dorothy F. VonHosteen, whom she cared for with fierce devotion; and her husband, Herbert Nagel, where together they built a family, many cherished memories and a warm home. She is survived by her four daughters: Tami Cramer (Charles) of Post Falls; Toni Kirsch (Jack) of Kingston; Traci Nagel of Tustin, Calif.; and Triana Nagel of Beaverton, Ore. — each one a fiery reflection of her spirit. She also leaves behind her sister, Karla Horn (Roy) of Rathdrum, nephews and fur babies, all of whom knew Sandi as the one who made everything better.
Sandi had a green thumb that could bring any yard to life, and a talent for cooking that made sure no one ever left hungry. She loved a good party (especially if she was hosting), a cold beer and any excuse to eat Mexican food. Her birthday bashes were legendary, and if there was music playing, you could bet she was already dancing.
She was active in many charities and community organizations, always showing up where help was needed — quietly making the world a better place with a smile, some elbow grease and maybe a casserole.
Sandi lived boldly. She loved deeply. She was kind to animals, generous with her time and never afraid of a little adventure. Whether it was a spontaneous road trip, a slot machine calling her name or just a sunny day in the garden, she embraced life with both hands.
She was vibrant, stylish, hilarious and strong. She took care of everyone — her parents, her husband, her kids, her community — and she did it all with grace and grit.
The world is dimmer without her, but oh, what a light she was.
Raise a glass, toast a memory and dance in your kitchen in her honor ... and don’t forget a round of hugs to everyone!
At her request, there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to Hospice (hospiceofnorthidaho.org) or Companion Animal Center (www.companionsanimalcenter.org) in her memory.
