COEUR d'ALENE —  A Post Falls man was arrested this morning after allegedly firing a handgun and then entering an apartment and leaving the gun and a mask behind.

Joshua Michael Burzynski, 39, was booked into the Kootenai County jail and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, being under the influence in public and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Coeur d'Alene police press release.

Police responded to the 1800 block of north Lincoln Way at about 11 a.m. after a citizen reported they heard what sounded like a gunshot and they saw a suspicious man walking away with a handgun in his waistband.

"As officers were responding to the area, another citizen called in stating the male entered his apartment, left a handgun and surgical style mask, and then left the apartment," the release said.

Police located Burzynski, who seemed to be under the influence of an illegal substance and admitted to discharging a handgun in his car, the release said.

No injuries were reported.
