Hayden Creek roads close for salvage logging

COEUR d’ALENE — The Forest Service said Friday it issued a temporary order closing several roads in the vicinity of Hayden Creek about two miles east of Hayden Lake.

Forest Development Road 1530 and portions of roads 437, 206, 406, and 428 will be closed Monday-Friday through October. The closure will not be in effect on weekends nor on Memorial Day, Fourth of July or Labor Day, a press release said.

Though the closure will affect weekday travel through October, it will allow logging operations to be completed in one season with the goal of minimizing total impact to public access, the release said.

The closure is for the safety of the public and logging contractors conducting a salvage timber harvest in the area of the Ridge Creek Fire, which burned more than 4,400 acres by the end of August 2023, the release said.
