STATE 3A, 2A GOLF: Lakeside's Jones second, Genesis Prep boys third in 2A at Circling Raven

WORLEY — Lakeside senior Beau Jones finished runner-up at the state 2A boys tournament on his home course Tuesday, finishing with a 9-over-par 153 for 36 holes at Circling Raven Golf Club.

Priest River’s Palmer Coleman won the state title with a 7-over 151.

St. Maries senior Seth Swallows, who was fourth as a junior at Sage Lakes Golf Course in Idaho Falls, lost a playoff for third place and finished fourth with a 155. 

Genesis Prep sophomore Byron Hammett finished eighth with a 162, leading the Jaguars to a third-place finish. The Jaguar boys finished fourth in 2023.

"Beau is an outstanding golfer who has improved his golf game over the past four years," Lakeside coach Jess Arthur said. "From his sixth-place finish at last year's state to this year's second-place finish is a testament of his hard work and dedication to the game of golf."

Compass Charter of Meridian won the boys team title with a 691.

Genesis Prep senior Chiara Lehman finished eighth with a 91-94—185.

Ambrose’s Ashley Von Behren won the girls title with a 151, leading the Archers of Meridian to their a second straight team championship.

Bonners Ferry's Braylyn Bayer

wins second straight title

RATHDRUM — Bonners Ferry senior Braylyn Bayer, who has signed with Weber State, won a playoff to win the state 3A girls individual championshjip at Twin Lakes Village Golf Club, her second straight title.

Bayer, who led after the first round with a 6-over-par 78, finished with an 163. Kimberly’s Ellyce Simmons shot an 80-83—163 to force a playoff, which Bayer won.

Bonners Ferry, which claimed the state title in 2021 and 2023, finished second to Kimberly — who last won in 2022.

Bonners Ferry senior Avery Bayer, who signed with Idaho State in November, was fifth with a 87-80—167.

Filer won the boys team title with a 328-338—666, with defending champion Kimberly finishing third with a 363-341—704. Homedale’s Wyatt Williams was boys individual champion, finishing with a 78-72—150.
