Ronnie Harwood, 91, passed away May 2, 2024, at Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Ron was born in 1933 in Thompson Falls, Mont., to Harold and Utahna Sand. Later, he moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, along with his three brothers (Robert, Ray and Bernard) and two sisters (Delores and Louise). When Ron was in high school, his stepfather, Lisle Harwood, adopted him.

Ron is survived by his faithful wife of 71 years, Donna Harwood of Hayden; brother Ray (Ellie) Anderson; sons Jerry Harwood and Larry (Linda) Harwood; four grandchildren: Branden (Kara) Harwood, Sheena (Seraiah) Chatfield, Emily Troughton and Mason Harwood; and seven great-grandchildren: Emma, Gavin, Clint, Jaxon, Kimber, Logun and little Trace. Ron is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Bob, Bernard, Delores and Louise.

Ron retired with over 35 years as a government employee, working for the Bureau of Public Roads for 12 years before transferring to the US Forest Service as a Project Engineer in charge of constructing countless roads and bridges. Ron, Donna and sons built their cabin at Mac Creek up the Coeur d’Alene River Road, where family and friends enjoyed 43 years of making memories to last a lifetime. Ron considered no one a stranger and was blessed with many friends. He often enjoyed shooting pool and dancing at the Coeur d’Alene Eagles, swapping elk-hunting stories and adventures from his youth over a cup of hot coffee with his beloved coffee group, and sometimes, he could be found enjoying a mimosa or two. He was a man who could build anything, liked to spend his time outdoors and loved his family and friends dearly. He will be greatly missed by all and anyone fortunate enough to have known such a hardworking, honest, smart man will count themselves as lucky.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Ronnie's memory. A gathering of loved ones and friends will be planned at a later date.
