PRECINCT: Tale of two candidates

| May 10, 2024 1:00 AM

I don’t care whether a local candidate supports “Sleepy Joe” or “Defendant Don.” I want to know what he or she has done for this wonderful community.

Recently, I received mailings from two people vying for GOP committeeman in my precinct.

The incumbent, a decent man whom I’ve supported in the past, sent a card with a photo of Donald Trump giving two thumbs up. In giant red letters at the top, the card said “VOTE MAGA! TO STOP THE RINO TAKEOVER.”

Then, the incumbent said he was for “We the People” and against, among other things, “wokeism & cancel culture” and “mask/vaccine mandates.” He offered no personal information or list of community service.

The card from challenger Katie Hunt said she has lived here more than 20 years and listed community involvement as past chamber board member, VFW auxiliary member, and former director of Kootenai County Police and Fire Memorial Foundation. She welcomed all Republicans, supported primaries over caucuses, and said: “My loyalty lies with you and our neighborhood, not outside groups.”

I suspect you know which candidate has my vote for precinct committeeman this spring.
