COEUR d'ALENE — The Kootenai County Fire Prevention Co-op recently wrapped up fire safety skits for more than 1,100 first graders.

Students learned about what number to call in an emergency, getting low in case of fire and leaving the building fast, never using fireworks in the forest and completely extinguishing campfires, a press release said.

The skits were delivered over two weeks. Each student received a flyer with fire safety lessons to take home.

After teaching their families the safety lessons, students returned the bottom section of the flyer for a chance to win a prize.

The co-op is made up of fire departments in Kootenai County. This year, actors came from East Side Fire District, Northern Lakes Fire Department, Timberlake Fire Department, Coeur d’Alene Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service, the release said.
