WSU names McCoy interim athletic director

PULLMAN, Wash. – Anne McCoy, WSU’s senior deputy director of athletics and senior woman administrator, will serve as Washington State University’s interim director of intercollegiate athletics as a national search gets underway for a full-time replacement.

WSU President Kirk Schulz announced the appointment on March 27. McCoy will continue to serve in the role until a permanent director is named.

“Anne is an outstanding administrator and a dyed-in-the-wool Coug,” Schulz said. “With more than two decades of experience in the WSU athletics department, she is uniquely qualified to ensure that Cougar athletics continues to excel as we search for the university’s next athletic director.”

McCoy oversaw all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the WSU athletics department before being appointed interim director. She also served as the sport supervisor for WSU women’s basketball, volleyball, soccer, and rowing. McCoy previous served as interim athletics director following the departure of Jim Sterk in February of 2010 until Bill Moos began his tenure as director of athletics in April of that same year.

McCoy held administrative positions at several university athletic departments prior to joining WSU in 2001. She helped lead programs at the University of Maine, Saint Louis and Portland State  She has also served on a number of national intercollegiate athletic committees over the course of her career, including the Pac-12 executive committee, the women’s basketball tournament and nominating committees, and the Pac-12 Diversity Leadership Initiative.

Schulz has initiated a national search to replace Pat Chun, who had served as WSU’s athletic director since 2018, who announced on Tuesday he was taking the same role at Washington.
