PREP ROUNDUP: Reese shines as Lake City avenges loss to Highland

MERIDIAN — Senior Cooper Reese struck out nine over 5.2 shutout innings for Lake City, which concluded play in the Rocky Mountain Invitational with a 6-1 win over the Highland Rams of Pocatello at Rocky Mountain High on Saturday.

Senior Avrey Cherry hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning for Lake City, which fell 3-0 to Highland on Friday.

Lake City was scheduled to face Madison of Rexburg and Mountain View of Meridian on Saturday, but those games were canceled due to rain.

Senior Cooper Smith had two hits and two RBIs for Lake City (4-2), which returns to action at Lakeland for a doubleheader on April 2.

LEWISTON — Sophomore Jace Taylor finished the day with seven hits and five RBIs for the Lakeland Hawks in a 11-5 and 15-5 nonelague sweep of the Bonners Ferry Badgers at Clearwater Park.

“He came out and just does what he does,” Lakeland coach Al Bevacqua said. “He really picked us up when we needed a boost.”

Taylor had four hits, three RBIs and three runs scored in the opener, then added three hits and three runs scored in the nightcap for Lakeland, which had 32 hits on the day.

“The team hit the ball really well throughout the day,” Bevacqua said. “We had an early start to the day and they showed some grit coming back when we were down some runs and just battling all day.”

Garrett Farrell had two hits and three RBIs in the second game for Lakeland (3-1), which returns to action on April 2, hosting Lake City in a doubleheader.

Bonners Ferry (1-8) hosts Sandpoint in a doubleheader on Thursday.

Russell wins twice for 

Charter at Dolphin invite

SPOKANE VALLEY — Coeur d’Alene Charter senior Nathan Russell won the 800- and 1,600-meter run at the Howard Dolphin Invitational at West Valley High.

Russell won the 800 in 2 minutes, 1:16 seconds and the 1,600 in 4:31.09 for the Panthers, who were seventh out of 14 teams.

Coeur d’Alene senior Nolan Oyler won the 3,200 in 10:04.82.

Charter sophomore Annabelle Carr won the 800 (2:21.53) and was second in the 200 (27.37) and 1,600 (5:11.18).

Coeur d’Alene Charter competes in an Intermountain League double dual against Bonners Ferry and Timberlake at Timberlake High on April 3.
