NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals sweep Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Sophomore Kani Korok hit a two-run home run in the first and third inning for North Idaho College, which swept the Walla Walla Warriors 14-4 and 10-1 in Northwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Kennedy Hobson hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning for NIC in the first game.

“We played really well in the first game,” NIC coach Shay Chapman said. “It was nice to see us bounce back after not having the best outing at Columbia Basin (NIC and Columbia Basin were tied 12-12 after eight innings in a suspended game due to darkness). We just made a lot of mistakes (Friday) and it was nice to see us compose ourselves and refocus.”

Sophomore Karli Kostoff hit a grand slam in the second game for NIC (15-2, 7-0 NWAC), which faces the Community Colleges of Spokane next Saturday at Spokane Falls Community College.

Friday’s game between NIC and Columbia Basin, which was halted after eight innings tied 12-12 due to darkness, will resume when the Hawks travel to NIC on May 3 before the start of the regularly scheduled doubleheader. 

Walla Walla is 8-8, 1-5.
