Sheriff's Office Notable Calls

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office published the following notable calls that occurred between March 18 and March 21. The sheriff’s office describes this information as preliminary and subject to revision as investigations continue.

March 18 — Deputies handled an unattended death report. There was nothing suspicious noted at the scene.

March 18 — Deputies responded to a residence for a welfare check after someone called in stating a female made some suicidal statements at an appointment. Deputies contacted the female and she was fine, just venting.

March 18 — Deputies assisted Idaho State Police with sheltering two horses due to the driver being arrested for DUI. Deputies facilitated the housing of the horses at the fairgrounds until Animal Control could make arraignments in the morning.

March 18 — Deputies made a traffic stop and during the traffic stop and K-9 alerted to drugs in the vehicle. Paraphernalia was located and the driver was served some civil paperwork and issued a citation.

March 18 — A deputy made a traffic stop for a minor traffic violation. Upon contact with the driver, it was learned he had an active warrant out of Bonner County. A search of the male’s person yielded methamphetamine. A further search of the vehicle yielded cocaine. The male was also charged with drug charges.

March 18 — A deputy checked out with a male subject. During the contact, it was learned the male had an active warrant out of Benewah County. He was arrested.

March 19 — Deputies conducted a welfare check on some subjects in a vehicle in the Honeysuckle Beach parking lot. It appeared the subjects were living out of their vehicle. The subjects advised they were fine and were provided with information on how to get some assistance if needed.

March 19 — Deputies responded to a missing 7 year old. The child failed to return home after leaving a friend’s house. Deputies were able to locate the juvenile and returned him home. 

March 19 — Deputies responded to a two vehicle injury accident on Seltice Way near Stateline. One of the drivers was reported to be DUI. However, after an investigation, it was determined she was not intoxicated, just a careless driver. Citations issued.

March 19 — A deputy made a traffic stop on Seltice Way near Pleasentview for a traffic violation. During the stop, a K-9 alerted to illegal drugs in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded vast amounts of marijuana, meth and paraphernalia. The driver was arrested on the drug charges.

March 19 — Deputies responded to a possible domestic dispute. Upon deputies’ arrival, they contacted the female who was highly intoxicated. Both parties refused to answer any questions, but deputies observed fresh self-inflicted knife wounds on the female’s wrists. She was taken into protective custody and transported to Kootenai Health.

March 19 — A deputy made a traffic stop on Seltice Way and Greensferry Road for a traffic violation. The driver was arrested for an active warrant out of Kootenai County.

March 20 — Deputies responded to a report of an overdose at the Hayden Super 1 Foods. It was reported a female entered the store, grabbed some over the counter medication and took half the bottle. She was placed into protective custody and taken to Kootenai Health. She was also charged with theft and commercial burglary.

March 20 — Deputies arrested a male for his active L & L warrant while attempting to serve him some civil paperwork. He was taken to jail and the paperwork was served.

March 20 — Deputies responded to a welfare check at the Hayden Walmart. It was reported a male was lying in the grass near the business. Deputies made contact with the male, who was highly intoxicated and stated he was going to go camp in the woods, but his camping gear was stolen so he decided to drink instead. Contact was made with the adult male’s mother and they were reunited at Stateline.

March 21 — Deputies responded to a third party report of a possible domestic in Hayden. Deputies arrived on scene and determined no crimes had occurred and deputies cleared.

March 21 — Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the Rathdrum area. It was reported the husband got upset and broke the door and frame and also a picture on the wall. The male had left prior to deputies’ arrival. Charges for malicious injury to property were filed.

March 21 — A deputy was traveling on Government way near Prairie and observed two vehicles traveling at excess of 20 mph over the speed limit. A traffic stop was made on one of the vehicles; the other fled the scene. The driver was issued a citation for racing on a public roadway.

March 21 — A deputy made a traffic stop near 5th and Pleasant View and ended up arresting the driver for possession of marijuana.

March 21 — A deputy made a traffic stop in the Stateline area on Seltice and ended up arresting the driver for DUI. 

March 21 — Deputies assisted Spirit Lake Police with a disturbance. Spirit Lake took primary on the call.

March 21 — Deputies were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle on Cliff House Road in Hauser Lake. It was reported that a vehicle was stopped in the roadway playing loud music with a subject dancing in the roadway in front of the vehicle. The vehicle was eventually located and after an investigation it was determined the driver was not intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, but was just having a mental health episode. 

March 21 — Deputies responded to a welfare check of a male at the Hayden Super 1 Foods. The male was reported to be possibly intoxicated or sick. The male was contacted and was not intoxicated; he just wanted some medical attention for a large boil on his foot. He was given a ride to Kootenai Health.
