PREP ROUNDUP: St. Maries, Timberlake split in baseball

• BASEBALL

ST. MARIES — Junior Kody Tefft hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to power the St. Maries Lumberjacks past the Timberlake Tigers 9-4 in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader at City Park on Tuesday.

Senior Milo Marsh had a two-run single in the second inning for St. Maries.

Timberlake junior Ethan Pecor had three hits and three RBIs in the opener.

In the nightcap, Timberlake senior Grant Allaway struck out 11 and walked three over five 1-hit innings to get the split.

Sophomore Tanner Van Tassel had three RBIs in the second game for Timberlake (3-4-1), which is scheduled to play at Priest River on Thursday.

St. Maries is scheduled to host Potlatch today at 3 p.m.

COEUR d’ALENE — The 5A Timberwolves and the 3A Tigers played a competitive first game until the sixth inning, when Lake City broke loose for eight runs to win via the 10-run rule. 

Taylor Hill’s one-out solo homer triggered the eight-run sixth in the opener for Lake City (2-2). Mariah Thomas and Maddie Chavez each had RBI singles in the inning for the Timberwolves.

Thomas finished 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, KaeLee Kolden was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Hill was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Mackenzie Johnson had a pair of RBIs for Timberlake (2-5) in the opener, and Jesi Kitchin had two hits and scored a run.

Kylee Palmer struck out six and allowed four hits in six innings for Lake City.

In the second game, called after five innings due to darkness, junior Madalynn Blood scattered five hits in five innings for Lake City. Kolden was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Layla Gugino hit a two-run triple in the second inning for the Timberwolves, and finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Acacia Pecor had a pair of hits and a run scored for Timberlake.

Both teams return to action April 2, Timberlake at home vs. Lakeland, and Lake City at Post Falls in an Inland Empire League doubleheader.

POST FALLS — Senior Kayla Rouse had a bases-clearing single in the second inning of the nightcap as the Trojans held off the Bears in an Inland Empire League doubleheader at Post Falls High.

Sophomore McKenna Zimmerman had two hits and drove in three runs in the second game for Post Falls (1-4, 1-1 IEL), which hosts Lake City in a doubleheader on April 2.

Moscow scored three runs in the top of the seventh to rally for a win in the opener.

Saputski shines for Lakeland

RATHDRUM — Lakeland senior Weston Saputski won in the 100- and 200-meter dash, as well as winning legs of the school’s 4x100 and 4x200 relay team for the Hawks in a double dual with Lake City and Sandpoint at Lakeland High.

Lakeland freshman Sapphire Ruelle won the girls 100 and 200.

Lake City junior Hazel Kunkel won both the 1,600 and 3,200.
