COEUR d'ALENE — A Coeur d'Alene man was arrested after his vehicle struck two children in a crosswalk Sunday evening, police said.

Casey G. Marotta, 28, was charged with aggravated DUI and booked into to the Kootenai County jail. He made a first appearance in court Monday and was no longer in jail as of Monday evening.

Coeur d'Alene police Sgt. Jared Reneau said Marotta was northbound when he hit the youngsters in a crosswalk at Fourth Street and Birch Avenue about 7 p.m.

The children were with their parents, Reneau said. They were taken to Kootenai Health, where one was admitted for overnight observation.

The extent of injuries was unavailable.

Reneau said the initial report indicated Marotta was distracted and adjusting the radio when the incident happened. He did not have a speed estimate for Marotta's vehicle.

He said Marotta was cooperative on scene.
