Stuart 'Stu' Barclay, 80

| March 3, 2024 1:00 AM

Stu Barclay was born in Spokane, Wash., on Nov. 17, 1943, and passed Feb. 5, 2024. He was the third son born to Dr. Alexander and Alma Barclay. As a child, Stu was raised on the shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene, spending time fishing, racing Starcraft sailboats and scuba diving. He graduated from the University of Idaho and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. After graduation, Stu became an aviator for the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam conflict. While in the military, he flew A7E, a single-seat strike attack jet during combat missions as a member of Attack Squadron 147 aboard the USS America. Stu later served as an instructor pilot and as a member of the USS Hancock and was the flight deck officer during the evacuation of civilians from Vietnam in 1975.

After leaving the military, Stu entered the world of business, quickly establishing a reputation as an astute businessman and gaining the trust and confidence of his peers and employees. His abilities and personal skills ultimately led him to the ownership of Summit Seed Coatings in Caldwell, Idaho.

Stu was an avid fly fisherman, traveling widely in search of the perfect stream. His hand-tied trout and salmon flies were gratefully accepted by his friends lucky enough to be gifted them. Stu's angling skills were only exceeded by his ability to recount stories of "the one that got away."

Above all, Stu was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a true and constant friend. His house was always open to family and friends for a meal or an extended stay. Stu relished evenings spent in conversation accompanied by his "wee dram" of single malt scotch.

Stu will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

Stu is survived by his wife, Sandi, children Dean, Scott (Selina), Shannon, Margaret, Heather (Ed), Robyn (Trevor), six grandchildren and his brother, Dick.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
