STATE BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Bonners Ferry back in state 3A semis

MERIDIAN — Asher Williams, the reigning state 3A Player of the Year, scored 32 points for the second-seeded Bonners Ferry Badgers in a 61-50 win over the seventh-seeded Kimberly Bulldogs in the opening round of the state 3A basketball tournament on Thursday at Meridian High.

Bonners Ferry (20-3), runner-up in last year’s tournament, got 13 points from Thomas Bateman as the Badgers pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Bonners Ferry faces sixth-seeded Marsh Valley in the semifinals tonight at 6.

Jakob Cummins scored 22 points for Kimberly (16-9).

MERIDIAN — The Bulldogs, at state for the first time since 2009, fell behind to the top-seeded Thunder 42-18 at halftime of a state 4A opening round game at Rocky Mountain High in Meridian.

Senior Parker Childs scored 17 points for Sandpoint (12-13), which faces Twin Falls (15-11) in a loser-out game today at 4 p.m. at Rocky Mountain High.

Julian Bowie, a BYU signee, scored 21 points for Pocatello (20-5), which faces Ridgevue of Nampa today at 11 a.m. in a semifinal game at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.

CALDWELL — The eighth-seeded Wampus Cats, at state for the second straight year, shot 7 of 33 in the first half in a loss to the top-seeded Mushers of Fairfield in the opening round of the state 1A Division II tournament at Caldwell High.

Senior Chase Sanroman had 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Clark Fork (13-7), which faces four-seeded Rockland (19-5) in a loser-out game today at 4 p.m.

Rockland lost 55-49 to Cascade in its opener.

Emmett Palan had 23 points and nine rebounds for Camas County (21-3).
