Safe Passage, Family Promise of North Idaho and Third Avenue Marketplace (formerly the Post Falls Food Bank) are among 21 regional nonprofits awarded a total of $372,000 in grants by Numerica Credit Union.

The funds were distributed through the 2024 Numerica Charitable Fund, a June 6 news release said. This annual program partners with organizations that align with the credit union’s philanthropic initiative, Numerica CARES for Kids.

“Numerica CARES for Kids is dedicated to uplifting children and families,” Numerica President and CEO Carla Cicero said in the news release. “We are proud to support and walk alongside these nonprofits who are providing vital services day in and day out to those in need. Numerica’s Charitable Fund is committed to fostering positive change and making a meaningful difference in our community.”

Safe Passage was one of four nonprofits in the second year of $100,000 multi-year grants.

Numerica team members surprised the nonprofits with customized cakes revealing the amounts the organizations were granted. The funds will be used to provide housing, meals, education and more.

“I have witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact that the funding from Numerica has had on our ability to provide a confidential and safe shelter for survivors of domestic and sexual violence,” Safe Passage Executive Director Amanda Krier said in the news release. "Every dollar donated allows us to offer not only a safe place to stay but also the vital support services that help survivors rebuild their lives.”

The Numerica Charitable Fund is funded by Numerica members through Skip a Pay, a voluntary program available on some loans. Members are allowed to bypass a monthly loan payment once every six months for a $30 fee, which is contributed to the fund to support community nonprofits.

Headquartered in Spokane Valley, Numerica serves more than 170,000 members in eastern Washington, central Washington and North Idaho. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works or worships in Washington or North Idaho. With more than $5 billion in assets under management, Numerica is federally insured by NCUA and an Equal Housing Opportunity lender.
