LEGION BASEBALL: Lums swept by Lewis-Clark

COEUR d’ALENE — Coming off an eight-day layoff due to high school graduations, the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen fell 12-4 and 8-5 to the Lewis-Clark Twins in class AA North Idaho League play Monday at Thorco Field.

In the opener, with Lewis-Clark (5-3) leading 2-1, David Goicoa hit a grand slam to cap a five-run second inning and boost the Twins’ lead to 6-1. Goicoa finished with five RBIs, and Hayden Line went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Braeden Newby went 2 for 3 for Coeur d’Alene (4-5), including an RBI single in the sixth. Chase Saunders singled in a run in the first inning for the Lums to tie the game at 1-1.

In the second game, Coeur d’Alene fell behind 8-1 after five innings before scoring four times in the bottom of the sixth. 

Line went 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored for Lewis-Clark, playing its fifth and sixth games in three days.

Coeur d’Alene returns to action with a pair of games Friday at Lewis-Clark’s Father’s Day tournament at Harris Field in Lewiston, facing the Benz Boys at 10:30 a.m. and the Tri-City Titans at 6 p.m.
