Amador named associate dean at U of I

Currently the director of Region 1 Regional Mathematics Education Center and a professor of mathematics education, Julie Amador will become the associate dean of research and faculty development for the university’s College of Education, Health and Human Sciences. She begins her new role Sunday and will split her time between the university’s Coeur d’Alene center and main campus in Moscow.

Amador will handle elements of research and faculty affairs, including faculty development and recognition, research and creative activity, grant activities, research contracts and tenure and promotion. Amador will also be the college’s liaison to the university’s Office of Research and Economic Development and will support faculty grant writing initiatives in her new role.

“My priority is mentoring and supporting faculty with writing and securing external grants from national funding agencies to increase external research funding and expenditures in the areas of curriculum, instruction, leadership and movement sciences,” Amador said.

Amador began her career as an elementary school teacher before earning her doctorate in curriculum, teaching and learning at the University of Nevada and becoming a postdoctoral fellow at Indiana University’s Center for Research on Learning and Technology. She joined U of I’s curriculum and instruction department in 2012 as an assistant professor and has since garnered and led more than $18 million in research efforts and grant initiatives in addition to teaching education and curriculum courses.

Amador was recently named a principal investigator for a four-year, $2.8 million grant from the National Science Foundation to study rural math education. She was also named one of the Kootenai County Young Professionals’ 2023 Top 30 Under 40 and was recognized as one of the Idaho Business Review’s 2022 Women of the Year.
