Sheriff's Office Notable Calls

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office published the following notable calls that occurred between Feb. 12 and Feb. 15. The sheriff’s office describes this information as preliminary and subject to revision as investigations continue.

Feb. 12 – Deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute in the area of Cougar Gulch. During the investigation it was learned it involved a vehicle stuck in the road and the argument was only verbal. A field interview was conducted as the parties involved did not live in the area.

Feb. 12 – Deputies responded to a suspicious call. The reporting party advised they were moving out of a residence and when they returned to get more items there were people in the house. Everyone was contacted and it was determined the incident was a civil matter.

Feb. 12 – A deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle at Poleline and Highway 41. During the stop, a Sheriff K-9 alerted to illegal drugs in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded methamphetamine, marijuana and paraphernalia. Both occupants were arrested for the drug charges.

Feb. 12 – A deputy responded to a possible DUI in the Hayden Walmart. On scene, they contacted a female outside of the vehicle. The female admitted to driving to the location. An investigation was conducted and the female driver was charged with DUI.

Feb. 12 – A deputy responded to a single vehicle accident in the area of Ramsey Road and Chilco Road. During the investigation it was determined the driver was under the influence. He was charged with DUI and Open Container.

Feb. 12 – A deputy contacted a female at a storage facility and arrested her on her misdemeanor warrant.

Feb. 12 – Deputies responded to an attempted theft in the Post Falls area. An unknown male attempted to steal a motorized scooter from the carport. When confronted the male dropped the scooter and fled. The area was checked but the male could not be located.

Feb. 12 – Deputies responded to a verbal domestic dispute between the husband and wife. The female reported that the male was using drugs in the basement and when confronted the male threw the drugs into the fireplace. Deputies arrived on scene and determined the male was under the influence but no drugs were found. The female left the residence for the night.

Feb. 13 – Deputies responded to a possible suicide attempt. Deputies arrived on scene and found a female in a shed, unconscious but breathing, with a few empty pill bottles around her. Medical personnel transported the female to Kootenai Health. 

Feb. 13 – Detectives and Deputies were doing some follow-up investigation related to drug offenses at a residence in the Twin Lakes area. During the contact, large amounts of illegal drugs as well as firearms were located. After interviews and the investigation was concluded, both occupants were arrested for various drug charges, including trafficking methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of fentanyl, possession of marijuana and other prescription drugs.

Feb. 13 – Deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident at Atlas Road and Boekel Road. 

Feb. 13 – Deputies responded to East Hayden Lake Road for a single vehicle accident. On scene, deputies contacted the female driver and noticed signs of intoxication. The female driver was eventually charged with excessive DUI, Minor in possession of alcohol and open container. 

Feb. 13 – Deputies assisted Spirit Lake Police with a possible assault with a firearm call. Deputies provided cover as Spirit Lake investigated the incident.

Feb. 13 – A deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The deputy noticed signs of drug use. A sheriff K-9 was deployed and alerted to drugs in the vehicle. The driver was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia.

Feb. 14 – A deputy was patrolling the area of Highway 41 and Central and observed a vehicle that was listed as a stolen vehicle. After more units arrived in the area, they made contact with the driver. After contacting the driver, it was determined the incident was a civil issue and no charges were filed.

Feb. 14 – A deputy made a traffic stop in the area of Greensferry and Burlington. The two occupants were issued citations for possession of marijuana.

Feb. 14 – Deputies responded to Hayden Super 1 Foods for a shoplifter. The suspect utilized the self-checkout and failed to actually scan several items. The suspect was issued a citation for Petit Theft.

Feb. 14 – Deputies responded to the area of Bunco Road and Pope Road for a weapons offense were shots were fired at a vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled the scene and was located by Idaho State Police at Highway 54 and Howard Road. An investigation was conducted and the incident was the result of a road rage incident. The suspects pulled in front of the victim and fired multiple rounds at them striking the vehicle. The female shooter and the male occupant were charged with aggravated assault, unlawful discharge into a motor vehicle and conspiracy.

Feb. 14 – Deputies made a traffic stop in the area of Pleasant View and Expo Parkway. Upon contact with the driver, the deputies observed signs of intoxication. The driver was arrested for DUI.

Feb. 15 – Several deputies responded to the Crossroads Conoco in Athol for a 911 call. It was initially reported that a female was being “choked.” Deputies arrived on scene and were flagged down by an individual. Deputies determined the allegations were unfounded and cleared the area. Shortly afterward, it was determined one of the subjects provided a false name and the real person had several warrants. Contact was re-made and after a brief scuffle the wanted subject was taken into custody. The other party was also arrested for obstructing.

Feb. 15 – Deputies responded to Lake CDA Drive for a psychological call. A male was reported to be talking to himself, seeing things and throwing items. Eventually, with the help of medical, the subject was taken into protective custody.

Feb. 15 – Deputies responded to a report of a fight in the area of Meadow Way and Hayden Ave. The incident was over two dogs fighting. After the investigation it was determined no crimes occurred. 

Feb. 15 – Deputies responded to an unknown injury accident on Huetter north of Prairie Ave. The accident was a rollover and the occupant was trapped for a short time. A report was taken and the street department responded, as the roadway was very slick.

Feb. 15 – Deputies assisted probation with a check and ended up arresting the male for an active warrant and possession of drugs.
