PREP ROUNDUP: Timberlake wins second straight district wrestling title

SPIRIT LAKE — Timberlake claimed its second straight district title, beating Bonners Ferry 241-198 in the two-team state qualifying tournament at Timberlake High on Thursday.

Sawyer Hutson (98 pounds), Wyatt Carey (106), Jacob Rade (113), Ayden Meehan (132), Chris Schmidt (138), Cole Hanely (152), Jonathan Hansen (170), Luke Schell (182), Isaiah Morehead (195) and Briley Arnett (220) won district titles for Timberlake.

The top two in each weight class advance to the state 3A tournament on Feb. 23-24 at the ICCU Dome in Pocatello.

Lake City's Cook, Johnson 

claim district championships

SPIRIT LAKE — Lake City’s Madi Cook (132) pounds and Alexxis Johnson (120) claimed District 1-2 titles at Timberlake High to punch their tickets to the girls state tournament at the ICCU Dome in Pocatello.

Cook beat Timberlake’s Shelby Garten to advance, while Johnson defeated Sandpoint’s Emma Garman in the finals.

“Madi wrestled that girl in the finals last week (in last Saturday’s Lake City girls tournament) and lost, and was losing again today,” Lake City girls coach Nathan DeLeon said. “She did what she needed to and got it done. Alexxis just looked really good all the way through. She had a couple of close matches with that girl during the season, but really stepped it up today.”

Annika Thompson won at 160 for Lakeland.

The top two wrestlers in each weight class, with a wild-card available for the next highest seed statewide, advance to state on Feb. 23-24 at the ICCU Dome in Pocatello.

WALLACE — Julian Davis scored 14 points, Stephen Paul 10 as the Miners downed the Tigers in the regular season finale for both teams at Kirby Krulitz Court.

Wallace (5-12) plays Genesis Prep on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at North Idaho College in the first round of the 1A Division I District 1 tournament.

Logan Petit scored 14 points for Mullan (2-15), which plays Kootenai on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at NIC in the first round of the 1A Division II District 1 tournament.
