Free performance of 'The Nativity Story' to feature dancers

| December 7, 2024 1:00 AM

A free performance of "The Nativity Story" featuring dancers is scheduled at 7 p.m. tonight in the cultural hall of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building, 2293 W. Hanley Ave.

"We are excited to host this interfaith celebration celebrating the Christmas season and the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ through music and dance," said Fred Sharp, president of the congregations hosting the event.

Monica Newell received inspiration for using dancers to portray “The Nativity Story” as she was driving to a worship service last summer. Newell is the founder and director of Alta Dance, a dance studio in Hayden.

"Monica choreographed and arranged musical recordings to artistically render the story of Christ’s birth in a new way," a press release said.

The details of the performance came alive as Newell consulted with Deanna Priebe, who wrote the script.

"The main objective is to bring multiple faiths and congregations together, to worship Christ during this Christmas season," the release said. "Many hope that this Christmas interfaith event will be the first of many hosted by the church."
