Rick Durbin, local business owner and graduate of North Idaho College, has announced his candidacy for North Idaho College trustee for Zone 3.

Durbin said he is stepping forward to bring leadership and stability to the NIC board of trustees during a critical time for the college.

“I’m passionate about education and have been considering running for the past year because of the ongoing turmoil within the board and the serious concerns about NIC’s accreditation,” he said in a press release. “The board needs strong leadership, focused on teamwork, serving students, faculty, and the community, to ensure that NIC’s legacy continues for years to come.”

Durbin is a local financial planner.

“As a business owner who’s deeply connected to this community, I’m confident that we can resolve the accreditation issue, but we have to do it together," he said. "My priority is to serve NIC and the community without compromise, ensuring we meet all the necessary requirements for success.”

Durbin graduated from Post Falls High School in 1989, holds an associate degree from North Idaho College, a bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho, and a master’s degree in adult organizational learning and leadership from the University of Idaho.

“Without the foundation NIC provided, I wouldn’t be where I am now,” Durbin said

Durbin and his wife have been married for 30 years. They have three adult children, seven grandchildren and two Bluetick hound dogs.
