Yankoff gets NFL shot with Washington

| April 30, 2024 1:20 AM

Colson Yankoff, who as a quarterback led Coeur d’Alene to the state 5A championship game as a senior in 2017, is getting a shot at making it in the NFL.

Undrafted last week after completing his career at UCLA, Yankoff has signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent.

The Commanders are looking at Yankoff as a tight end. Other NFL teams were also reportedly interested.

Yankoff began his college career at the University of Washington, but left after one season and transferred to UCLA in 2019. He was eventually converted to receiver by the Bruins, and also played on special teams.

The past two seasons, Yankoff played running back, and returned kickoffs as a senior. He caught two touchdown passes in 2022.

* Tight end T.J. Ivy, who played last season at Idaho, was invited to the New York Jets’ free-agent training camp.
