PREP ROUNDUP: Rickert rolls to girls singles title at Inland Empire tourney

MEAD — Sandpoint’s Pepper Rickert, the top seed, won five straight matches to claim the No. 1 girls singles title in the Inland Empire Tournament.

Playing at Mt. Spokane High, Rickert won four of her five matches 6-0, 6-0, losing only one game the entire weekend.

Coeur d'Alene's Rietze among winners at Legends Invitational

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Sophomore Mitchell Rietze (3,200, 4x800 relay) notched a pair of wins for Coeur d’Alene at the Legends Invitational at Walla Walla High on Saturday.

Rietze won the 3,200 in 9 minutes, 31.12 seconds, then teamed with freshman Wyatt Carr, junior Kyle Rohlinger and senior Jacob King to win the 4x800 relay in 8:07.76.

Seniors Lachlan May (1,600 in 4:19.08) and Jakan Lawrence (pole vault, 14 feet), also notched wins for Coeur d’Alene, which finished sixth with 50 points in the 17-team meet. 

Lake City junior Logan Anderson was fourth in the 3,200 (9:43.01). 

Sandpoint senior Jett Longanecker was third in the 400 (51.91) and was second in the 4x800 alongside seniors Kasten Grimm, Daniel Ricks and Nathan Roche in 8:08.21. 

Coeur d’Alene sophomore Dakota Keyworth was third (11:18.16), sophomore Olivia May seventh (11:40.74) in the 3,200. Junior Kelsey Carroll was third in the discus (121-4) and senior Maddie Mitchell was sixth in the 300 hurdles (48.11) and sophomore Evey McGraw fifth in the triple jump (35-9 ¾). 

The Viking 4x100 relay team of freshman Emily Sumrall, junior Paige Hunt, Mitchell and junior Maricela Nelson was fifth in 51.42.

Coeur d’Alene’s 4x800 relay team of junior Chloe Frank, Keyworth, sophomore Kierra Shannon and May was fourth in 10:15.81. The Vikings finished tied for ninth with 33 points.

Lake City junior Hazel Kunkel was sixth in the 1,600 (5:12.59). Lake City freshman Courtney Johnson was sixth in the discus (110-6).

Sandpoint senior Ivy Smith was third in the shot put (39-6), the Bulldog 4x400 girls relay team of senior Lily Richardson, sophomore Elia Howard, senior Grace Rookey and junior Noah Roark was sixth in 4:10.44. Sandpoint sophomore Jetta Thate was fifth in the javelin (105-9) and senior Devin McDaniel fifth in the pole vault (10-6). The Bulldogs finished eighth with 35 points.

Capital HIgh of Boise won the boys team title with 90 points. Walla Walla won the girls meet with 123.5.

Lamanna, Smith shine for 

Spartans in Newport

NEWPORT — Ian Lamanna won the pole vault, Chase Smith the javelin, and Priest River posted 14 top-three overall finishes at the Barry Saltz Memorial Relays at Newport High.

Gavin Greismer bested his own school record in the javelin, throwing for 134 feet and 10 inches to place third. Trinity Meyers posted a pair of top-three finishes in the discus and javelin. Lizzie McCracken was third in the 1600, posting a personal best time of 6:00.24.

The Spartans are back in action on Thursday at the District I Meet of Champions hosted by Post Falls High.
