NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals stay hot, sweep Treasure Valley
COEUR d’ALENE — Sophomore Hayden Rockwell hit a two-run home run in the first inning of the second game, then followed with a solo shot later in the game to power North Idaho College to a 19-7 win over Treasure Valley in Northwest Athletic Conference play on Friday at Memorial Field, the Cardinals' 25th straight win.
“Hayden just had a monster day at the plate,” said NIC coach Shay Chapman, whose team won the opener 12-4. “I’m just really proud of this team. It’s been really exciting to see their success.”
Kristine Schmidt, a freshman from Coeur d’Alene High, struck out seven in the first game for NIC (31-2, 19-0 NWAC), which also had home runs from Cori Doran and Kaylee Vieira in the opener.
“Cori is just solid at the plate right now,” Chapman said. “Kaylee, she’s a beat at the plate and anything on the plate, she’s going to crush. She’s been a really good bat for us.”
NIC hosts Columbia Basin in a doubleheader next Friday at Memorial Field.
