Sixth Street Melodrama announces upcoming season

| April 26, 2024 1:00 AM

WALLACE — The Sixth Street Melodrama and Theater have recently announced the lineup for their upcoming season.

Starting the season is a new melodrama, titled “Huckleberry Havoc, or …The Villain is in a Jam.”  The schedule for this year’s melodrama is changing. There will be one melodrama that will be five weeks, with shows Thursday through Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Ticket price will remain $12. This show is written and directed by Carl Rowe, Paul Roberts and Carol Roberts.

This summer, "Kelly’s Alley Revue" will be performed during the first half of the program, with the melodrama being performed after intermission. Can hero Sergeant Stanley Steadfast, of the Cataldo Rangers, find the Black Huckleberry Pie recipe and save the day for the heroine Sarah Sweet? Not if saloon owner Lucrecia Luscious and villain Malcot Malicious have anything to do with it!

In November, the theater’s fall production will be a continuation of the popular show from spring of 2023, this time called “’Laugh-In’ Even Louder.” Once again, cast members will come together to share groovy tunes and comedy from the 1970s. The show opens Friday, Nov. 1 and shows will be Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through Nov. 17. This show is written and directed by Terri Robinson.

For one weekend only, “Christmas at Sixth Street” will be performed during the Wallace Christmas festival Dec. 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. This production is written and directed by Joy Persoon.

Returning to the Sixth Street stage will be the musical “Nunsense.” This musical is a hilarious show about five nuns who stage a talent show to raise money for their dead sister’s funeral. This production will be directed by Paul Roberts.

In May, singers from churches across the Silver Valley will be performing a special “Gospel Hymn Sing-a-Long Fundraiser Show” to help raise money to buy a new electric piano. This production is directed by Joy Persoon. The show will be May 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale on the website.

The current piano has seen more than 20 years of playing tunes on the Sixth Street stage, and it is time for an upgrade. Tickets for this show are $20, with proceeds going to purchase a new electric piano. No comp tickets or subscription passes can be used for this special fundraiser show.

As part of this year's season pass, you will have tickets for the following shows: Huckleberry Havoc, or...The Villain is in a Jam, "Laugh-In" Even Louder, Christmas at Sixth Street, and Nunsense. The benefit of having a season pass is the ability to buy your tickets all at once, and then reserve your tickets for each show. By purchasing a season subscription, you will save on the overall cost of attending all four of the theater’s productions.

The Sixth Street Season Subscription passes are also on sale. Patrons can purchase a season subscription through July 17, 2024. To purchase a subscription, go to the theater website and click on the Subscription Tab at the top.
