PREP SOFTBALL: Lake City splits, drops out of lead

COEUR d’ALENE — Lake City tied the second game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth gave Moscow an 11-10 victory over the Timberwolves and a split of the Inland Empire League doubleheader Thursday.

Lake City won the first game 12-3.

KaeLee Kolden hit a three-run homer in the second inning of the second game, as Lake City (11-5, 9-3 IEL) jumped out to a 5-0 lead. 

Kaci Kiblen hit a solo homer as Moscow (8-10, 5-7) scored seven runs in the top of the third. Madalynn Blood hit a solo homer in the bottom half, and it was 7-all after three.

Sammy Pfiffner drove in three runs for the Bears, including the deciding run in the eighth.

In the first game, Karsyn DeMent hit a three-run homer in a six-run first inning, and finished with four RBIs for Lake City. 

Taylor Hill added a two-run single in the first inning for the Timberwolves, Kolden hit a solo homer in the second, and Layla Gugino hit a two-run shot in the fourth. Freshman Madeline Peterson went 4 for 4 and drove in two runs.

Hannah Robertson connected on a three-run homer in the third inning to account for Moscow’s scoring. 

Kylee Palmer allowed just two hits for Lake City, striking out five and walking six.

Lake City slipped one game behind Coeur d’Alene (12-4, 10-2) and Lewiston (10-6, 10-2) for the IEL lead.

Lake City is scheduled to play host to Lakeland on Saturday in an IEL doubleheader.

POST FALLS — Lexie McCarroll struck out nine and scattered three hits as the host Trojans beat the Tigers in nonleague play.

Jaya Felix hit a three-run triple in a 10-run third inning for Post Falls (5-13), and finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Summer Dan hit a two-run homer in the third for the Trojans. Charlie Wasson hit a two-run single in the fourth inning, and finished 2 for 2 with four RBIs and two runs scored. McKenna Zimmerman hit a two-run double in the fourth, and finished with three RBIs.

Logan Walsh delivered a solo homer in the first inning for Timberlake (10-7), which had won eight straight games. She also doubled in the fourth and scored.

Timberlake plays host to Bonners Ferry today at 4 p.m. in the first of two meetings between the lone two softball-playing teams in the Intermountain League.

Post Falls returns to action Tuesday at Lewiston in an Inland Empire League doubleheader.

RATHDRUM — Alexis Hanna hit a three-run homer in the second inning and finished 4 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs scored as the Hawks beat the visiting Lumberjacks on senior night.

Baylee Frank hit a two-run homer in the second inning for Lakeland (7-8). Payton Sterling and Raygen Dutton and Abby Helmholz each drove in a pair of runs for the Hawks, and Kyla Holte was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Helmholz, Mackenzie Briggs and Mia Kesner combined on a three-hitter for Lakeland.

Addilyn Turner hit a two-run homer in the first inning for St. Maries (3-16).

Lakeland travels to Lake City on Saturday for an Inland Empire League doubleheader. 

St. Maries visits Kellogg on Monday for a Central Idaho League twinbill.
