PREP ROUNDUP: Lakeland topples Sandpoint twice

• SOFTBALL

SANDPOINT — The Lakeland Hawks scored in every inning but one in battering the Sandpoint Bulldogs 11-1 and 23-12 in Inland Empire League softball play Thursday at Memorial Field.

Alexis Hanna went 3 for 4 with two runs scored for Lakeland (6-6, 4-4 IEL) in the opener, and finished the day 6 for 8 with two RBIs and seven runs scored. Abby Helmholz struck out seven, walked three and scattered five hits in the first game for the Hawks.

In the second game, Delilah Zimmerman was 2 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs scored for Lakeland, and Katie Dewey and Mackenzie Briggs drove in four runs each. Baylee Frank was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and four runs scored.

Peyton Cessna went 3 for 4 with a homer, double, four RBIs and three runs scored for Sandpoint (3-11, 0-6).

Lakeland travels to Lewiston on Tuesday for an IEL doubleheader.

SPIRIT LAKE — Junior Jesi Kitchin went 3 for 4 with a homer, five RBIs and three runs scored as the host Tigers downed the Knights of Spokane Valley in nonleague play.

Kitchin hit a two-run homer in the first inning, a two-run double in the third and a run-scoring single in the fourth for Timberlake (9-6), which won its seventh straight game.

Acacia Pecor gave up a two-run homer to JC Weger of East Valley (3-8) in the first inning, but yielded just one other hit the rest of the way. Pecor struck out 10 and walked three, and also had two hits and drove in two runs. Allilah Dykes went 2 for 4 with three runs and an RBI for the Tigers.

“I was proud of our kids today,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “We were shorthanded and had some kids playing in positions they don’t normally play. Offensively every one of my kids got a hit today. Jesi Kitchin was making great contact all day at the plate.”

Timberlake plays host to Libby on Tuesday.

ST. MARIES — Addilynn Turner singled and scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth inning of the second game, helping the host Lumberjacks earn a split with the Badgers in nonleague play at City Park.

Addyson Stewart went 3 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored in the nightcap for St. Maries (3-12). 

Stewart hit a grand slam in the fifth inning of the first game to put the Lumberjacks up 12-9, before the Badgers (2-8) took the lead back with seven runs in the top of the sixth.

Lexie Brebner went 3 for 5 with a triple and double, four RBIs and a run scored in the opener for St. Maries.

Jodee Curtis went 4 for 6 and scored twice in the first game for Bonners Ferry, and Ava Frederickson was 3 for 5 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

St. Maries plays host to Grangeville on Saturday in a Central Idaho League doubleheader.
