PREP ROUNDUP: Lakeside's Jones, Genesis Prep's Lehman earn medalist honors

PINEHURST — Beau Jones of Lakeside shot an even-par 72 to earn medalist honors at the Kellogg Invitational on Monday at Pinehurst Golf Course.

Chiara Lehman of Genesis Prep shot 90 to earn girls medalist honors.

Genesis Prep’s boys and St. Maries’ girls notched team titles.

Seth Swallows of St. Maries and Palmer Coleman of Priest River tied for second for the boys, each shooting 75.

Sami Sindt of St. Maries was second for the girls with a 93, and Kendra Korasick of Kellogg and Pavin Coleman of Priest River tied for third at 102.

RATHDRUM — Senior Garrett Farrell struck out six and allowed three hits and no walks over four innings as the host Hawks blanked the Badgers in nonleague play at Gorton Field.

Jace Taylor struck out two and walked none in a hitless fifth for Lakeland (6-6).

“Garrett pitched great today, was really efficient on the mound,” Lakeland coach Al Bevacqua said. “Jace Taylor also threw well. I’ve been challenging the pitchers to work ahead; the most important pitch is strike one. And he (Farrell) really did a great job of that today.”

Roan Reilly drove in three runs and Taylor was 2 for 3 and scored twice for Lakeland, which plays host to Post Falls in an Inland Empire League doubleheader today at 3.

Bonners Ferry dropped to 3-14.

OSBURN — Logan Smith was 5 for 8 with a homer, double, nine RBIs and seven runs scored as the Wildcats swept the Spartans in Central Idaho League play at Morehouse Field.

Smith hit a three-run homer in the third inning of the first game, and was 3 for 3 with six RBIs and four runs scored for Kellogg (6-4, 3-0 CIL). Jack Fields drove in four runs for the Wildcats in the opener.

In the second game, Gage Nosworthy was 4 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs scored for Kellogg, and Austin Clapper, Reed Whatcott, Smith and Ethan Coberly each drove in three runs.

Priest River is 0-14, 0-8.

SPIRIT LAKE — Acacia Pecor struck out 14 in the opener, Casey Whaley fanned 10 in the nightcap, and each pitched a one-hitter as the Tigers swept the visiting Trojans in nonleague play.

Pecor walked none, Whaley one for Timberlake (8-6). Pecor had three hits, including two doubles, and Whaley drove in three runs in the second game.

In the opener, Allilah Dykes, Jesi Kitchin, Logan Walsh and Marissa Needs each drove in two runs. 

“Our pitchers threw well today in both games,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “They kept their hitters off balance and kept them guessing all day. It took us a little bit to get the timing down, but once that happened all of the girls were making good contact at the plate.”

Timberlake plays host to East Valley on Thursday.

Vikings sweep Lewiston, Moscow

COEUR d’ALENE — Trailing 5-3 at one point, Coeur d’Alene rallied to beat Lewiston, then downed Moscow 11-1 at Coeur d’Alene High.

"Things were not looking so good for us early on in the match,” Coeur d’Alene boys coach Corey DeLeonard said. “Lewiston got off to a great start in many of the early doubles matches. Our singles players were able to pull out some big wins for us to help us get the overall team win. It was really fun to see the kids rally around each other and pull off the victory against a good team."

Connor Judson, Grant Johnson and Samuel Mandel each won twice in boys singles for Coeur d’Alene, as did Caitlin Combes and Maddie Hunt in girls singles.
