Cindy Wood a 'Hometown Hero'

COEUR d'ALENE — TDS Telecommunications presented a local nonprofit leader with a Hometown Hero Award on Thursday.
Cindy Wood has served as the executive director of Family Promise of North Idaho, working to help low-income families and families experiencing homelessness achieve sustainable independence.
Wood said she was surprised, honored and humbled by the award. She said she hopes the recognition helps the community learn a little bit more about what Family Promise does.
She said she and her team have helped more than 700 families since 2008, including 36 last year.
"Thank you for noticing what I do," she said.
TDS executives recognized Wood's efforts with a Hometown Hero Award, which honors individuals making a difference in the community and especially aims to highlight unsung heroes.
“As the leader of Family Promise, Cindy has lifted up so many families and made an incredible impact in the community. We’re excited to shine a spotlight on her and recognize her efforts with the TDS Hometown Hero Award," said Scott Schultz, TDS vice president of marketing and product development, who presented Wood with the award.
Also as part of the presentation, TDS made a $1,000 donation to Family Promise, which is based in a small office in Coeur d'Alene.
“I am so excited for Cindy to be receiving this award," said Rana Cantrell, president of the board of trustees for Family Promise. "She is so passionate about helping families who are experiencing homelessness here in North Idaho. Her dedication and commitment in helping these families become self-sufficient once they complete the program is inspiring.”
TDS serves North Idaho communities including Coeur d’Alene, Hayden, Post Falls and Rathdrum with high-speed internet, TV entertainment and phone services. The company recently began construction expanding its network in Post Falls.
