SCSO investigating DUI on I-90

BIG CREEK ––  A reported alcohol-related head-on collision slowed traffic on Interstate 90 for several hours Sunday evening.

According to Shoshone County Sheriff’s Capt. Seth Green, 911 dispatchers received several calls about a red SUV driving erratically on westbound I-90. The SCSO sent a deputy to respond, who witnessed a red Dodge Durango attempt to pass a semi-truck on the shoulder of the highway.

The driver overcorrected across both lanes, which sent them through the median and into oncoming traffic on the eastbound side, resulting in the head-on collision with a white sedan, Green said.

As the deputy attempted to assist the sedan driver, the male driver of the Durango freed himself from his wrecked vehicle and approached the deputy, asking the deputy to shoot him.

Green said the deputy attempted to place the male in custody before further assisting the victim, but the man resisted arrest until two citizens helped detain him.

Jerry Best, 27, of Wallace, was taken into police custody and has been charged with reckless driving, driving under the influence, driving without privileges and resisting arrest.

Both Best and the sedan’s driver sustained only minor injuries, Green said.
