LEWISTON — Lake City High freshman Trey Lambert will always remember his 15th birthday.

Through eight holes in Thursday’s 5A Region 1 tournament, he sat at 6-under, including eagling the par-4 third hole and par-3 fourth hole. He finished the front nine with a 5-under 31.

“Things just settled down and he had some unlucky breaks,” Lake City boys coach Kelly Reed said. “He lost a ball on the 14th hole, and didn’t complain or say a word as we went back to tee off. He just doesn’t appear to get rattled easily, which is hard to do when you’re just 15.”

Lambert finished with a 1-under 71 to earn boys medalist honors at the 5A Region 1 tournament on Thursday at the Lewiston Country Club.

"It was really impressive in a lot of ways today," Reed said. "Trey's body language was great and everything just seemed pretty steady."

Coeur d’Alene junior Grant Potter, who was regional medalist as a freshman and sophomore, shot a 72 to lead the Viking boys to their fourth straight regional title, and fifth in seven years. Coeur d'Alene shot 303; Lake City also qualified for state by finishing second with a 337.

Coeur d’Alene finished with a 351 to edge Lewiston (358) for the girls regional title, the Vikings' third in four years.

“Our kids are playing some superb golf right now,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Jeff Lake said. “We’re looking forward to carrying that into state down in Lewiston next week and making a run at some hardware.”

The top four individuals and two teams advanced to state next Friday and Saturday at Lewiston Country Club.

Lewiston senior Mollie Seibly was girls medalist with a 72.
