PREP ROUNDUP: Coeur d'Alene boys run to victory in Missoula

MISSOULA, Mont. — Coeur d’Alene senior Jacob King finished third in 15 minutes, 40.96 seconds to help lead the Viking boys to the team title at the 62-team Mountain West Invitational on Saturday at the University of Montana Golf Course.

Coeur d’Alene had four other finishers in the top 20 — junior Max Cervi-Skinner (fourth), sophomore Mitchell Rietze (12th), senior Lachlan May (13th) and freshman Wyatt Carr (16th) — to finish with 45 points, 30 better than runner-up Bozeman. Sandpoint was 10th with 425.

Coeur d’Alene sophomore Olivia May was the top female finisher in 11th. The Viking girls were sixth out of 48 teams. Gallatin of Bozeman, Mont., won the girls team title with 123 points.

Other locals in the Top 20 were Coeur d’Alene Charter sophomore Annabelle Carr (15th), Lake City junior Hazel Kunkel (18th) and Coeur d’Alene sophomore Dakota Keyworth (20th).

Bob Firman invite

EAGLE — Timberlake senior Jacob Barnhart was the top local finisher at the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park, finishing fourth in 16 minutes, 21.7 seconds in the Division II boys race.

Timberlake freshman Caleb Royce was seventh in 16:39.2.

Timberlake sophomore Vanessa McLachlan was 13th in the girls race in 20:40.4.

MOSCOW — Senior Maleah Wilhelm had seven blocks as the visiting Trojans swept the Bears 25-15, 29-27, 25-15 in Inland Empire League play at Bear Den.

Kylie Munday had 18 kills, 18 assists and four blocks for Post Falls (19-3, 5-0 IEL). Jenna Sarff had 12 kills, Lucy Carr 24 assists, Danielle Codd 17 digs, Lexi Norisada nine digs.

The match tipped off at 9 a.m. due to homecoming activities Saturday night at Post Falls.

Moscow is 3-8, 2-3.

Post Falls plays host to Lewiston on Tuesday.

Lakeland at Rocky Mountain tournament

MERIDIAN — The Hawks took first in their pool on Friday night, beating Mountain View, Centennial and Weiser.

On Saturday, Lakeland was third in its pool, splitting matches with Timberline, Highland and Melba.

The Hawks lost in the first round of the championship bracket to Rocky Mountain 25-15, 23-25, 15-12.

“It’s been a tough couple of weeks for us with a lot of games and our girls have shown grit, adversity and perseverance through it all,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “They have played through sickness and injuries and battled hard through every game. I’m very proud of all our players and how hard they played this weekend.”

Badger said Lila Kiefer “had a great tournament” with 41 kills, 50 digs, six blocks and seven aces. Landree Simon finished the tournament with 49 kills, 47 digs, six blocks and five aces. Ziya Munyer “continues to show up and play aggressively” with 68 kills, 21 digs, 24 blocks and four aces. Addy Jo Hocking “was scrappy and dug a lot of tough hits” with 88 digs, and five aces. Ella Terzulli “had a great weekend controlling the court and running a 5-1” with 118 assists, 22 digs, five aces and five blocks.

Lakeland (16-5) travels to Sandpoint on Tuesday.

POST FALLS — Senior Jillian Russworm had six aces and six digs as the host Jaguars downed the Tigers 25-17, 25-14, 25-18 in nonleague play at The Courts at Real Life.

Laya Daniels had five aces, three kills and three blocks for Genesis Prep (10-3). Madi Cooper had three digs and two aces, Pearl Covey eight digs and two aces, Kennedy Prendergast seven assists, four kills and two aces, Sophie Martin four digs, Ella Martin three digs, Shayla Hill two aces.

“We served really well tonight,” Genesis Prep coach Paula Thurston said. “Serving wins games, and tonight proved that.”

Genesis Prep plays at North Idaho Christian on Monday.

Timberlake (3-6) visits Riverside on Tuesday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Lake City freshman Malynn Sobek had two wins individually in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, as well winning legs in the school’s 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays at the Kroc Center.

Lake City freshman Owen Bennett had wins in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay.
