NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinals sweep Wenatchee Valley, extend win streak to eight

COEUR d’ALENE — Shorthanded, but the North Idaho College volleyball team still kept things rolling on Wednesday night.

Freshman Morgan Claus had 12 kills and 21 digs, freshman Grace Keisel 12 kills, 20 digs and four blocks for the Cardinals in a 25-18, 25-19, 25-23 win over the Wenatchee Valley Knights in aNorthwest Athletic Conference match at Christianson Gymnasium.

NIC was without starting setter Karolyne Wolfgramm and libero Allie Hone due to injury.

Freshman setter Hailey Hillman had 38 assists for NIC, which is ranked second in this week’s NWAC Coaches Poll.

“For her to come in and run the team, it will just help her moving forward,” NIC coach Brittany Tilleman said. “Just seeing a shift, it will only help us with our depth as the season moves on.”

Brooke Minden, a sophomore from Post Falls High, had 19 digs and Rylee Hartwig — also a sophomore from Post Falls — had three blocks for NIC (14-1, 2-0 NWAC), which hosts Walla Walla on Friday.

Wenatchee Valley is 9-7, 1-1.

ONTARIO, Ore. — Sophomore Macie McElhenney scored two first half goals for the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference shutout of the Chukars.

NIC (7-3, 3-1) remains second in the East Region standings.

Treasure Valley is 1-5, 0-4.

Cora Anderson had a goal and assist for NIC, which travels to Walla Walla on Saturday.

ONTARIO, Ore. — Randy Lane scored on a free kick in the 24th minute for the Cardinals, who came up short to the Chukars in a Northwest Athletic Conference match.

“We kind of ran out of steam a little bit in the second half,” NIC coach Brad Williams said. “We just had some poor defending errors in the second half. We were in control and had chances to win the game, and had some shots that were right at the keeper. Credit to Treasure Valley, they just fought.”

NIC (2-3-1, 1-2-1 NWAC) travels to Walla Walla on Saturday.

Treasure Valley is 2-3-1, 1-2.
