OPEN PRIMARIES: Will make Idaho greater

I was disheartened to see a recent letter raising the disproven boogeyman of “Idaho will become California” regarding open primaries. Opening the primaries will only serve to break the strangle lock of extremist elements on Idaho’s governing bodies. It will allow the best person for the job instead of the person who fits with the most extreme points of view.

Around 30% of Idaho voters are independent and the Republican Party actively chose to lock them out in 2012 because they were afraid of hardworking everyday people who don’t swear loyalty to party over people. The independent spirit of Idaho is what makes Idaho great. With open primaries we’ll see Idaho become greater and more united. In such a divided age I’d think we could all get behind that.
