Police warn of scam calls
COEUR d'ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene Police Department on Thursday warned residents of scam calls.
Police received six separate reports about someone calling community members claiming to be an officer with the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, a press release said.
The suspect informs the potential victim they’ve missed a court date and now have a warrant for their arrest. The suspect asks for personal information and demands money to take care of the warrant, threatening arrest if victims aren’t cooperative, according to the release.
These types of scams are common and often include the suspect asking for money in various forms including through gift cards or money orders to satisfy the warrant, the release said.
"The Coeur d’Alene Police Department would like to remind community members, officers with our department will never call citizens asking for money to satisfy any type of legal process," the release said. "Additionally, we will only collect limited personal information for investigative purposes."
If anyone receives a call that seems suspicious, hang up and contact the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, 208-769-2320.
