ACCESSORY UNIT DWELLINGS: Should not be used as AirBnbs

In this morning’s news was a great story about allowing homeowners to build secondary small homes on their lots. These are often called ‘mother-in-law’ or ‘mom and dad’ homes and are much needed.

However, the county must make sure that these are not used for more Airbnbs which are sabotaging our housing market already. Where I live are many Airbnbs and the excess traffic clogs our roads in the summer.

Also these Airbnb rentals are keeping housing prices high as these homes are not going on the market as these would have in the past. And these rentals compete with hotels which must pay large business operating fees and other fees that Airbnbs do not. They have an unfair advantage over traditional hospitality businesses. We don’t need more Airbnbs in this county.
