NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinals down Big Bend in four

COEUR d’ALENE — Freshman Gracie Keisel had 16 kills, three aces and three blocks for North Idaho College, which won its 17th straight match with a 25-21, 25-27, 25-14, 25-18 Northwest Athletic Conference win over the Big Bend Vikings of Moses Lake on Wednesday at Christianson Gymnasium.

Sophomore Rachael Stacey had 12 kills and 26 digs, sophomore Abigail Beaton 12 kills, sophomore Omayra Valle 24 digs and freshman Karolyne Wolfgramm 25 assists for NIC (23-1, 11-0 NWAC).

“We had a very solid outside attack and Big Bend threw up a solid block tonight,” NIC coach Brittany Tilleman said. “The girls did a good job of moving around and finding ways to attack. Gracie, she’s fun to watch and played aggressively. Her blocks were going straight down and she did an awesome job from the service line as well.”

Freshman Hailey Hillman had 29 assists and freshman Lily Leidenfrost three blocks for NIC, which travels to Walla Walla on Friday.

Big Bend is 2-18, 0-11.

PASCO, Wash. — Cardinal sophomore Kaycee Chavez had five saves to preserve the shutout for the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference draw with the Hawks.

NIC (11-4-3, 7-2-3 NWAC) trails Columbia Basin (10-1-3, 7-1-3) for the third and final playoff spot in the East Region.

NIC returns home to face Yakima Valley on Saturday at noon.

PASCO, Wash. — Gabriel Delgado scored two goals, both in the second half for the Hawks, who shut out the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference match, clinching the East Region title.

"We're pretty pleased with how we competed," said NIC coach Brad Williams, whose team trailed 1-0 at halftime. "They got a goal six minutes into the half and we tried to generate some chances late, but got called for a penalty. The game was a lot tighter than the score shows, but we battled and didn't make it easy for them."

NIC (2-8-3, 1-7-3 NWAC) returns home to host Walla Walla in its season finale next week.

Columbia Basin is 13-0-0, 10-0-0.
